MADISON - The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team made it a clean sweep of the weekly tennis awards handed out by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as the Pointers took home the singles and doubles award for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Sophomore
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) took home the singles player of the week award after she remained undefeated, winning all three of her matches during the week. On the road against Lawrence University, Allbaugh was a 6-1, 6-1 winner. Against conference rival UW-La Crosse, Allbaugh defeated Kelly Stadum in the No. 2 flight with scores of 6-3, 6-2. In the week's finale against St. Norbert College, Allbaugh won her first set 6-3 and her second 6-0 to finish off her perfect week. Allbaugh is 10-0 in 2009 and is 17-3 in her last 20 matches going back to 2008.
Senior
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover) and freshman
Leah Benn (Stevens Point) took home the doubles weekly award. Sorensen and
Leah Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) continued their undefeated streak with three victories during the week. In Appleton against Lawrence University, the duo won 8-0. In the first conference match of the year, Sorensen and Benn were the lone UW-Stevens Point doubles team to earn a win, with an 8-4 victory over UW-La Crosse's Megan Fallon & Andrea Vivian. Against St. Norbert College, Sorensen and Benn finished the week with an 8-3 triumph. On the season, Sorensen and Benn have compiled a 7-0 record.
The Pointers return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 when they host the Blugold of UW-Eau Claire in a match-up scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Goerke Park.
