Bob Semling has announced the Pointer men's basketball schedule for the 2009-10 season. The schedule features seven teams who finished last season ranked in the top-25 and a rematch of the Pointers final game of last season, as the University of St. Thomas.
The Pointers will open the 2009 campaign when they travel to Collegeville, Minn. for a match-up with the Johnnie of St. Johns. The two teams met to open the season last year, and the Pointers came away with the 97-70 victory.
The Pointers then travel to Tacoma, Wash, Nov. 20-21, to take on Whitworth College and Puget Sound University in the Puget Sound Tournament. Whitworth finished last season ranked 24th with a 24-6 record, while Puget Sound finished ranked ninth at 25-4. The Pointers hold an all-time record of 2-0 against Puget Sound. The game against Whitworth will be the first ever meeting between the two nationally ranked programs.
The Pointers open the 2009-10 conference portion of their schedule on Dec. 2 when the Blue Devils of UW-Stout come to Quandt Fieldhouse. The Pointers will then be on the road for back-to-back conference road games, at UW-River Falls and at UW-Whitewater on Dec. 5 and Dec. 9 before returning to Point for six straight home games.
During the six game home stand the Pointers will face Elmhurst and Wisconsin Lutheran before the holiday break and then the University of St. Thomas on Dec. 29. After the New Year, the Pointers will host Oshkosh, La Crosse and Platteville in Conference action on Bennett Court. Elmhurst , St. Thomas and UW-Platteville finished last season ranked in the top-15.
The start of the 2009-10 season kicks off with the annual Purple-Gold game, scheduled for Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Quandt Fieldhouse.
