Football
Offense – Jared Jenkins, Junior (Milwaukee, Wis.)
Jenkins started the 2009 season where he ended the 2008 season, by leading the Pointers in receiving. Against Central College Jenkins had eight receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns. At the start of the fourth quarter Jenkins had his second longest career reception with a 63 yard touchdown catch. Jenkins, also the punter, ran for two first downs on two fake punts and punted four times for an average of 42.5 yards per punt.
Defense – Matt Lunder, Junior (Waunakee, Wis.)
Starting defensive end Matt Lunder had seven tackles, five solo during Saturday's game against Central College in Iowa. Lunder was in the Central College backfield all day with three of his tackles coming for total losses of eight yards including two consecutive plays that stopped a Central drive and forced a punt. On the season Lunder leads the Pointers in tackles for losses.
Special Teams – Marc Young, Sophomore (Detroit, Mich.)
Playing in his first game for the Pointers, Young had a standout special teams day. Young, playing on the punt return team, pressured the Central College punter on two of his five punts. Mid-way through the second quarter Young broke through and blocked a punt giving UWSP possession at midfield. At the start of the fourth Young again was in the backfield this time tipping the Central College punt.
Women's Soccer
Offense – Kirsti Nickels, Freshman (Appleton, Wis.)
Nickels made her second goal as a Pointer her first game winning goal. In the opening conference game against UW-River Falls Nickels scored midway through the second half in the 56th minute to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead. In a tough match that one goal would prove to be crucial as the game ended with UWSP victorious 1-0. On the day Nickels had three total shots, two shots on goal and one goal.
Defense – Ashley Anders, Junior, (Fond du Lac, Wis.)
Anders led the UWSP defense to their third straight shutout victory. Anders, playing for all 90 minutes and starting in her fourth straight game, anchored a Pointer defense that moved the ball out of the defensive zone limiting the Falcons to just six shots and only three shots on goal.
Volleyball
Lizzy Taylor, Sophomore (Eau Claire, Wis.)
Taylor led the Pointers in digs this past weekend at the Augsburg Tournament. In four matches Taylor reached double digit digs in three. Taylor's best match came in a 3-1 victory of over Lawrence University where she recorded 17 digs and four kills. Through the 13 games of the tournament Taylor had 56 digs, four kills and two assists. For the season the Pointers have 330 digs with the team high of 96 courtesy of Taylor.
Women's Golf
Jessica Urban, Senior (Arrowhead, Wis.)
Jessica Urban, Senior (Arrowhead, Wis.), shot an opening round 81 Sunday at the O'Brien Invitational in Notre Dame Indiana, tied for 19th after day one. Urban shot a 42 on the first nine, but rebounded to shoot a 39 on the back nine. Day two is currently underway.
Women's Tennis
Doubles: Emily Riordan, Senior (Appleton, Wis.) Kaitlyn King, Senior, (Stevens Point, Wis.)
In three matches in Iowa over the weekend the Pointer doubles team of Riordan and Kaitlyn King went 2-1. Against Cornell College the tandem supplied the only Pointer doubles victory with an 8-5 win. Against Knox College Riordan and King were again victories with a convincing 8-1 victory. For the season the tandem of Riordan and King are 5-2.
Singles: Chelsea Allbaugh, Sophomore (Bettendorf, Iowa)
Allbaugh continued her hot start over the weekend. Against Cornell College, Allbaugh won on an exciting tiebreak match 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) to start the weekend. On Sunday in the first match of two for the day, Allbaugh defeated Jordan Kuban of Knox College and then won her nightcap against Grinnell College 6-2, 6-4. Allbaugh is 7-0 on the season and has won 14 of her last 17 matches dating back to last season.
