vs. Grinnell
GRINNELL, Iowa – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in Iowa, defeating Knox College 8-1 before falling to Grinnell College 6-3 in the nightcap.
Against Knox, the Pointers secured all three doubles victories and won all five of their singles victories in straight sets as they cruised to the non-conference victory.
Grinnell proved to be much more of a challenge for the Pointers, as the Pioneers (7-0) captured all three doubles matches, putting the Pointers behind early, 3-0.
In singles action, needing to win five of the six matches, the Pointers fell just short, only able to come away with three victories.
Rachel Benn (Stevens Point),
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) and
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover) recorded the Pointer victories, Benn at No. 1, Allbaugh at No. 2 in a thrilling 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) victory and Sorensen at No. 5.
The Pointers (5-2) next hit the court against Lawrence University on Thursday, Sept. 17 in Appleton. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
