NEW ORLEANS - UW-Stevens Point men's track and field athletes
Christopher Petrie (Glenbeulah),
Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake) and
Corey Towle (Waukesha) have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association All-Academic team for their efforts both on the track and in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year.
This is the second straight season Prusinski has been named to the All-Academic team while Petrie and Towle each make their first appearance.
A total of 186 student-athletes representing 78 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) had the most student-athletes on the list with 23 followed by the University Athletic Association with 21, and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 18.
The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
The Pointers finished the 2009 indoor season in eighth place at the NCAA Championships and posted a 25th place showing at the outdoor championships.
