STEVENS POINT - Five UW-Stevens Point baseball players have signed on to play in the Northwoods Baseball League, a summer baseball league comprised of the top college players from across the nation and North America.

Jeremy Richter (Rosholt/Rosholt) and Eric Fritz (Custer/SPASH), have signed on with the Wisconsin Woodchucks, Joel Delorit (Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door) and Tyler Lorenz (Pembine/Pembine-Goodman), have signed on with the Green Bay Bullfrogs and Scott Williams (Baraboo/Baraboo) is pitching for the Waterloo Bucks.

“We are excited to have five of our players participating in one of the elite summer collegiate leagues in the country,” said Pointer head coach Pat Bloom. “To play in the Northwoods League is the goal of each one of our underclassmen, and it is an experience that is sure to provide them with the type of competition and rigorous game schedule that will challenge them both physically and mentally.”

“If they perform well, they also have a chance to solidify themselves as prospective Major League prospects. It is a great opportunity for those five, and we look forward to additional opportunities for our players to compete in the league.”

UW-Stevens Point has had 16 different players participate in the Northwoods League since 2005 including several players who made rosters multiple seasons.

“To have five players competing in the Northwoods League is a tribute to their level of play this past season in helping our program to sustain a championship-caliber of performance, both in conference and in national competition,” said Bloom. “With Jordan Zimmermann having had such great success in his Northwoods stint back in 2006 (Baseball America named him the league's top prospect), I think more teams are realizing that we develop quality ballplayers who can make a positive contribution in this league.”
