Pointers Head to Oshkosh for Midwest Baseball Regional

STEVENS POINT - After capturing its fifth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) baseball tournament crown with an 11-1 victory over UW-Whitewater on Saturday, the UW-Stevens Point baseball team will face the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday, May 13 beginning at 1 p.m.

The 54-team field was announced Monday morning.

The Pointers (29-14) secured the fifth seed in the Oshkosh Regional, joining St. Olaf, St. Thomas, St. Scholastica, St. Norbert and Beloit at E.J. Schneider Field.

This is the 11th trip to the NCAA Championship for the Pointers and their fifth straight.

The Pointers are 26-23 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and have made three appearances in the tournament's World Series (1997, 2006, 2007). Last season the Pointers went 1-2 at the Central Regional, defeating Linfield College (Ore.) before falling to host Augustana and Webster in Moline, Ill.

The Pointers are 11-4-1 all-time against the Tommies of St. Thomas. Their last meeting came in 2008, a doubleheader split at the H.H. H. Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Tommies and Pointers also met in the 2007 Midwest regional in Wisconsin Rapids, a game Stevens Point won 6-3.
