RIVER FALLS – The UW-Stevens Point softball team dropped both games of a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Falcons of UW-River Falls 5-1 in game one and 9-1 in a run-rule shortened nightcap.
In game one, the Pointers collected just three hits off River Falls pitching and scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning, down 5-0, as
Jessica Berger (Bonduel) recorded a solo home run to left center, her fifth of the season.
Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) took the loss, her eighth of the season, pitching four innings, allowing seven hits, four earned, while recording three strikeouts.
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL) came in to pitch two innings in relief, allowing two hits and collecting three strikeouts.
In game two, the Pointer bats stayed cold, recording just five hits off River Falls starter Rose Tusa, game one's starter for the Falcons. Tusa also recorded eight strikeouts in the nightcap while picking up her eighth win of the season.
Sarah Butts (Greenfield) was the only Pointer to collect two hits, finishing game two 2-for-3 and also recorded the lone Pointer RBI, a two-out single to left center, scoring
Allie Dorn (Greenville).
Dorn took the loss in game two, allowing 10 hits and seven runs, all earned, while notching three strikeouts.
Sunday's doubleheader against UW-Stout has been rescheduled due to an unfavorable weather forecast for Sunday. The games have been moved to Monday, April 27. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Menomonie.
