Titans Slide Past Pointers

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point softball team fell to 13-11, 0-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Tuesday afternoon, dropping both games of a doubleheader against the Titans of UW-Oshkosh 5-1 and 10-1 in five innings.

Titan pitcher Lauren Roberts kept the Pointer hitters off balance in game one, scattering six Pointer hits over seven innings, striking out nine while surrendering one walk. The Pointers scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth Jessica Berger (Bonduel) scored on a Allie Dorn (Greenville, Fox Valley Lutheran) single.

Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) took the loss, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in four innings of work. Elyse Nelson (Batavia, Ill.) pitched three innings in relief, scattering two hits and striking out two.

In game two, the Titans did their damage in the game's opening inning, scoring six runs, all unearned, to jump in front. The Titans added two more runs in the third and fifth innings to cruise to the run-shortened victory.

The Pointers lone run came in the bottom of the fourth, a solo home run by Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh, West).

Dorn took the loss in game two, allowing three hits and six runs, all unearned, and walking one. Nelson appeared for two innings of relief work, scattering three this and allowing two runs, one earned and walking two. Kastenmeier came in for 2.1 innings in relief, recording two strikeouts and one walk.

The Pointers return to action on Thursday, April 16 when they host Edgewood College in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at McCarty Memorial Field.
