Game One Box
Game Two Box

LA CROSSE – The UW-Stevens Point softball team fell to 0-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Friday afternoon, dropping two games to the Eagles of UW-La Crosse by scores of 7-3 and 15-7.

The host Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second and added two more runs in the third to pull in front 4-0. Lauren Watkins (Baraboo) cut the deficit to 4-1 for the Pointers with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but La Crosse plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to pull in front 7-1.

The Pointers added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings as Samantha Bizeau (Gladstone, MI) and Kimberly Liegel (Madison) each scored, but it was not enough for a Pointers comeback, as UW-La Crosse pitcher Kaylyn Von Glahn came in to pitch the final 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit.

Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) took the loss, going 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, five earned, striking out one. Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL) came on to pitch the final 2.1 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out two.

In game two, the Eagles again took an early 2-0 lead in the second before Liegel crossed home plate in the third, cutting the deficit to 2-1, scoring on a Bizeau single. After La Crosse added a run in the bottom of the third, the Pointers unloaded for four runs in the top of the fourth, thanks in part to an Allie Dorn (Greenville) two-run double, jumping in front for their first time 5-3.

The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fourth but UW-Stevens Point plated two more runs in the top of the fifth, as a Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh) connected on her first home run of the season, scoring two runs and giving the Pointers a 7-4 lead.

But in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagle bats came alive, as they scored 11 in the bottom frame to secure the run-rule shortened affair 15-7.

Nelson took the loss in game two, surrendering three runs in the bottom of the fifth, two earned, without retiring a batter.

The loss drops the Pointers to 13-9 overall, 0-4 in the WIAC while La Crosse improves to 21-7 overall, 6-2 in the WIAC.
