STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women’s basketball team is heading to Bloomington, Ill. and the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University for the round of 16 in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The fourth-ranked Pointers will take on the nation’s top-ranked and undefeated Titans of Illinois Wesleyan in the round of 16 on Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. The winner will face the advancing team of the Washington University (Mo.)/St. Benedict game, set to tip-off prior to the UWSP/Ill. Wesleyan game.
All tickets sold will be general admission. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students with ID, senior citizens and children (free for children under 2). There will be no pre-sale of tickets. Tickets go on sale one and one half hour before the first game. Fans should identify themselves as UWSP fans at the ticket window. UWSP fans are encouraged to sit in Section "E" behind the Pointers bench.

The Pointers advanced to the Sweet 16 after winning both their first and second round games at home, defeating Maryville University 77-62 in the opening round and Concordia (Wis.) 78-58 in the second round.
UWSP captured the programs fourth regular season conference title and their third postseason tournament title this season. The Pointers are led by sophomore
Britta Petersen (Luck) and her 14.4 points per game.
Jessi Sporle (Mineral Point) leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.0 boards per game and also averages double figures in scoring, adding 10.5 points per game.
Three WIAC teams were selected for the 2009 tournament and only the Pointers remain after UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire were both defeated in the NCAA tournament’s second round. Illinois Wesleyan handed the Blugolds an 80-64 defeat, ending their tournament run in Saturday’s second round.
