CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Two UW-Stevens Point wrestlers finished up action at the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships this weekend.
Chase DeCleene (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon) posted a sixth place finish at 141 pounds, while
Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) finished in fifth at 184 pounds.
At 141,
Chase DeCleene (Ashwaubenon) posted a win in his first match of the day 3-2 over John Paxos of Ithica. In his next match, DeCleene ran into No. 1 seed Austin Bautista and was defeated 11-4 which sent him to the fifth place match. In his final contest, DeCleene was defeated by Luke Baum of RIT 13-1 and finished in sixth place.
In his first match of the day at 184,
Ben Engelland (Neenah) was defeated 8-0 by Phil Moenkedick of Concorida-Moorhead. In the consolation bracket, Engelland fell to Gabe Youel of North Central 4-3 and was sent to the fifth place match. In his final match, Engelland defeated Bryan Lenhardt of John Wales 9-4 and captured the fifth place crown.
