Pointers Notch Two Wins on Final Day in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team finished their 2009 trip at the Rebel Games in Florida with two victories, defeating Nazareth 7-3 before recording a 3-0 victory against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

In game one, Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) recorded the victory, throwing five solid innings for the win while Brooke Schramm (Manitowoc, Lutheran) came in for two innings of mop up work. At the plate, Lauren Watkins (Baraboo) was 1-3 with a two-run home run and two RBI while Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL, Batavia) was 2-3 with a solo home run and two RBI. Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh, West) also had a hot day at the plate, going 2-2 with a double and three RBI.

In game two, Kastenmeier again threw five innings to secure the victory while Nelson came in to throw the final two innings and preserve the shutout. At the plate, Jessica Berger (Bonduel) went 1-4 with a double, Samantha Bizeau (Gladstone, MI, Gladstone) went 2-2 with a double, Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh, West) drove in two runs and Allie Dorn (Greenville, Fox Valley Lutheran) was 1-2 with an RBI in the victory.

The Pointers close out their trip 8-2 and improve to 10-4 overall. The Pointers return to action on April 1 with a doubleheader against Ripon College in Ripon at 3 p.m. The Pointers are scheduled to begin play at home on April 5 against Finlandia.
