The “Pink Zone” is an initiative that includes many NCAA women's basketball teams to help out individuals who have breast cancer. The Pointers raised just over $4,900 through the “Shave Coach Wilson's Head” campaign, silent auctions and a brat fry. The charity of choice for the Pointers was the St. Michael's Hat and Wig Program, helping local people who have had breast cancer.

The Pointers main goals this year were try to raise over $2,000 and to spread the message about breast cancer. It started with a brat fry in September that did very well. The Pointers were encouraged by their strong start and thought that having a silent auction before every home game would be a good way to continue their endeavor for the whole season and involve many people. Many local businesses donated gift certificates, athletic equipment, a homemade quilt, beauty products, along with much more.

Coach Wilson also wanted to do something to help out our “Pink Zone” campaign this year. She agreed to shave her head if she was able to fundraise an additional $2,500 through donations. Coach Wilson reached her goal on February 7, and kept her promise as she let the members of the team shave her head at center court after their home Superior game.

The Pointers would like to thank everyone who donated funds, items, and their time to the “Pink Zone.” It takes a very special community and Pointer fans to be able to raise over $4,900 for a great local cause.
The Pointers hope to continue this great tradition next year as well.
