ST. PAUL, Minn. - Nine University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point men's hockey player have been named to the 2008-09 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) All-Academic Team for their efforts on the ice and in the classroom.
The nine All-Academic honorees were the second-most of any NCHA team, second only to the College of St. Scholastica, who had 11 players selected.
Six of the nine recipients are making their second appearance on the list.
Andy Cankar (Lockport, IL, Lockport),
Ross Johnson (International Falls, MN, Falls),
Tim Manthey (Anoka, MN, Anoka),
Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie),
Creighton Scarpone (Buchanan, MI, Pendleton) and
Matt Stendahl (Forest Lake, MN, Forest Lake) make the list for the second time.
Johnson was also a candidate for the league's scholar-athlete award, posting a 3.65 GPA while majoring in business.
New to this year's list are
Craig Dakins (Wisconsin Rapids, Culver),
Steve Hamilton (Stevens Point, SPASH) and
Russell Law (Bay City, MI, Shattuck (MN)).
