EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team tallied 117.5 team points on their way to a second place finish at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday, as
Chase DeCleene (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon) (Ashwaubenon) and
Jake Wozniak (Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) (Stanley) each tallied first place finishes in their respective weight classes.
DeCleene tallied four victories en route to his first place finish that included a 3-2 decision in the first place match against Justin Garcia of UW-La Crosse. Wozniak also tallied four victories on the day including wins over UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire wrestlers before defeating Augsburg's Orlando Ponce in the first place match 6-4.
Elsewhere for the Pointers,
Dennis Reckelberg (New Franken/Luxemburg-Casco) (Luxemburg) finished fourth at the 174-pound class, Ben Engellend (Neenah) finished second at 184,
Jeremy Fulk (Anchorage, AK/West Valley) (Anchorage, Alaska) and
Brandon Jochem (Hustisford/Hustisford) (Hustisford) finished second and fourth at 197 and
Chad Gregory (Lawton, OK/Lawton) (Lawton, Okla.) and
Bret Oswald (Antigo/Antigo) (Antigo) finished second and third at the 285-pound weight class.
The Pointers return to dual action this weekend, hosting Augsburg and UW-Eau Claire on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14. Friday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start while action gets underway on Saturday at 1 p.m.
