MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The UW-Stevens Point women's and men's basketball team spend another week ranked among the nation's top teams, as the women's team moves up three spots from last week to No. 5 while the men's team drops one spot to No. 6 in the D3hoops.com poll.
The Pointer women's team secured their fourth Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) title last week and in the process secured the No. 1 seed in this week's conference tournament. The Pointers posted a 2-0 week, defeating UW-La Crosse 63-61 on Wednesday before closing out the regular season with an 84-63 victory over UW-Platteville on Saturday.
The Pointer men's team posted a 1-1 week and in the process secured the programs 25th WIAC title. With the Pointers 78-62 victory at UW-La Crosse and losses on Wednesday by UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville, the crowed race for the league's top spot cleared, and the Pointers ended up on top. With the title already in hand, as well as the tournament's No. 1 seed the Pointers suffered a 55-52 defeat at the hands of UW-Platteville on Saturday.
Both the men's and women's team host semifinal games on Thursday evening. The men will host their game at 6 p.m. with the women's game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game. The Pointers will host the lowest remaining seed left after Tuesday evening's quarterfinal match-ups.
