MINNEAPOLIS – The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's basketball teams find themselves in the ranks of the nation's top-10 teams for the sixth straight week. The men's team drops two spots to No. 5 in the poll while the women's team moves to No. 8.
The Pointers men's team posted a 1-1 week, defeating UW-Eau Claire at home last Wednesday but suffered their first conference setback on Saturday in overtime against Whitewater. The Pointers hold a one game lead in the conference standings over UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater.
The women's team also posted a 1-1 week, defeating UW-Eau Claire on the road before falling just short at UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The women's team also holds a one game lead in the league standings heading into the final week of the season.
Both teams close out the regular season with games against UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville this week. The Pointer men's team will travel to La Crosse on Wednesday before taking on fourth-ranked Platteville on Saturday at home at 3 p.m.
The women's team hosts both opponents this week. Wednesday's game is also part of the national “Pink Zone” effort. Fans are encouraged to “Pink Out” Berg Gym and show your support for the fight against breast cancer. Saturday is “Senior Day” with a special post-game presentation.
