Three Pointers Net WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON - UW-Stevens Point's Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage) (Portage), Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) (Milwaukee) and Jake Wozniak (Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) (Stanley) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week for their efforts in their respective sports for the week of Feb. 2-8.

Hurd recorded a season-high and game-high 22 points in a win over UW-Stout on Feb. 4, while also grabbing a team-best seven rebounds. Against UW-Superior on Feb. 7, he outdid himself and raised his season high for points by registering a game-best 25 points to go along with seven rebounds. For the week, Hurd scored 47 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked three shots. He shot 18-of-29 from the field, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the free throw stripe.

Ingram recorded a pair of first-place finishes as UW-Stevens Point won the 15-team Pointer Invitational. He broke the school record en route to winning the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.38. His performance surpassed the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark and ranks as the fourth-best time in the country. Ingram broke another school record as he won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98.

Wozniak started the week with a major decision, 15-5, over Cedric Gibson of UW-Whitewater on Feb. 4. At the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on Feb. 7, he tallied a first-place finish in the 165-pound bracket with a 6-4 win over Orlando Ponce of Augsburg College (Minn.). Wozniak began the meet by upending Gibson again with a 7-3 decision and then pinning UW-Eau Claire's Will Christ in 1:10. He advanced to the finals with a 19-9 major decision over Steve Merth of Itasca Community College (Minn.).

Hurd and the Pointer men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday when they play host to UW-Eau Claire in a 7 p.m. showdown. Ingram and the men's indoor track and field team is back in action this weekend at the UW-Platteville Invitational. Wozniak and the wrestling team hosts Augsburg and UW-Eau Claire on Friday and Saturday in their final two duals of the regular season.
