Four Named D3football.com All-West Region

MINNEAPOLIS - Junior wide receiver Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee/Rufus King) led a class of four Pointer football player named to the D3football.com All-West Region Team. Byran Blum, Matt Lunder (Waunakee/Waunakee) and John Jones (Oregon/Oregon) were also selected to the 75 member team.

The teams, selected in balloting by West Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 152 nominations by Division III member schools.

Jenkins (Milwaukee) received first team honors after leading led WIAC in every statistical category from the wide receiver position. Jenkins finished with 80 receptions for 1,210 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2009. He also enters the top-5 of UW-Stevens Point's all-time touchdown receptions list.

Blum (Baraboo) was a second team defense honoree. He had double duties as a defensive back and punt returner in 2009 for the Pointers. Blum was third on the Pointers with 76 tackles and recorded one interception. He finished the season with five passes broken up and six passes deflected.

Matt Lunder (Waunakee) and John Jones (Oregon) were third team defensive honorees. Lunder was a nuisance to opposing quarterbacks all year long. Lunder finished with a team high 8.5 sacks and is tied for the NCAA Division III lead in tackles for a loss with 24.5 for a loss of 106 yards. He recorded 64 tackles, 30 of which were solo, and forced a team-high two fumbles.

Jones led a Pointer defense that ranked as one of the best in the WIAC in rushing defense. Jones finished 2009 with 48 solo tackles and 92 tackles overall. He recorded a season high 15 against UW-Whitewater. Jones had one interception and one fumble recovery this season.

The Pointers finished the season 7-3, 6-1 in the always difficult Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
