STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point junior
Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) has been named to the D3hoops.com 2009-10 Preseason All-America fourth team. Petersen is joined by UW-Stout's Julia Hirssig (First Team) as the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) athletes to earn the preseason women's basketball honors.
Petersen, a native of Luck, is the only Wisconsin native to garner the D3hoops.com honors. Petersen finished last season averaging 14.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She started all 29 games she participated in and shot .704 from the free-throw line. Petersen's .550 field goal percentage topped the WIAC and her 1.38 blocks per game ranked third in the league.
Petersen led the Pointers in scoring on 12 different occasions last season, surpassing the 20 point mark five different times. She recorded a season-high 23 points on Jan. 10, 2009, in a victory 75-46 at UW-Platteville and pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds on Nov. 21, 2008, against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Petersen earned several awards following 2008-09's campaign. She was named to the All-WIAC first team and was a WIAC Player of the Year finalist. She was the WIAC Player of the Week Jan. 5-11 and was named the Pointer Subway Athlete of the Week four times. D3hoops.com also named her to the All-Central Region Team. Petersen was named Tournament MVP for the 2008-09 Pointer Tip-Off.
The Pointers kick off the season on Nov. 17, when they travel to La Crosse to take on Viterbo University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Pointers then return home for the Pointer Tip-Off on Nov. 20, when they play host to Rockford College at 7:00 p.m. in the opening round of the Pointer Tip-Off Tournament.
