MINNEAPOLIS – The Pointers tallied power play goals in both the second and third periods as UW-Stevens Point women’s hockey team defeated Augsburg College 2-0 in non-conference action at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period,
Tracy Butler (Marshfield) notched her first goal of the season off a
Sarah Phillips (Kelowna, B.C.) and
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN) assist, giving UWSP the lead at the 12:53 mark.
In the third, it was Lunneborg who tallied her second goal of the season at the 3:16 mark off a
Maren Dvorak (Northfield, MN) pass, giving UWPS the two goal advantage.
The rest of the way, the Pointer defense held strong, as
Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH) recorded her first victory of the season, recording 12 saves in goal, three in the third period to give Stevens Point the victory.
The Pointers return to action on Saturday when they travel to St. Paul for an afternoon match-up with Bethel University. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
