MEQUON – Five UW-Stevens Point wrestlers placed on Saturday at the 2009 Concordia (Wis.) Open, hosted by Concordia University. The Pointers had two wrestlers,
Chris Karl (Arpin) and
Ben Engelland (Neenah), finish as champions in their respective weight classes.
Karl captured the individual tile at 174 pounds, going 5-0 on the day en route to his first open title of the season. Engelland also posted a perfect 5-0 day on his way to defeating UW-Whitewater's Sean Pietrzyk in the 184 pound championship.
Elsewhere,
Jordan Schulte (Mosinee) finished third at 165 pounds,
Andrew Dilworth (Greendale) finished fourth at 157 pounds and
Steve Wozniak (Neillsville) finished in fifth place, pinning his opponent from Concordia Nebraska in just 46 seconds.
The Pointers return to action on Dec. 2 when they face the Titans of UW-Oshkosh in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action in Oshkosh. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
