STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-2-0, 2-0-0 NCHA) completed a weekend sweep of the Concordia Falcons (3-3-0, 0-2-0 NCHA) on Saturday afternoon, posting a 4-2 victory at Ice Hawks Arena. Four different players scored for the Pointers as they remain undefeated in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) got the scoring started for Stevens Point 1:20 into the first period off a pass from
Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) to give the Pointers an early 1-0 lead.
The Falcons answered with a goal 18 seconds later by Sarah Lichtie off passes by Hilary Christiansen and Alisha Java to tie the game at 1-1.
The Pointers weren't done in the first period as
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN) scored an unassisted goal 8:19 into the first period to give the Pointers a lead they would not relinquish.
Stevens Point added another goal 16:15 into the second period by
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN) off a pass from Lunneborg to give the Pointers a 3-1 lead. The Pointers final goal came at 8:24 into the third period by
Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN) with Lunneborg assisting.
Concordia's final goal came 17:44 into the third period by Samantha Meuwissen, unassisted.
Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL) was in the goal the entire game for Stevens Point and finishes with 11 saves giving up two goals and has a 3-0 record. Katie Hirsch took the loss for Concordia, finishing with 38 saves and giving up four goals.
The Pointers return to action on Saturday, December 5 when they travel to take on Lake Forest with the puck set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
