STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point (6-2-0, 1-0-0 NCHA) women's hockey team had little difficulty Friday night defeating the Concordia Falcons (3-2-0, 0-1-0 NCHA), 4-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opener for both teams at Ice Hawks Arena.
Tracy Butler (Marshfield) got the scoring started for the Pointers 14:31 into the first period off a pass from
Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN) to give Stevens Point a 1-0 advantage. The Pointers wasted little time when 14 seconds later
Sarah Dusold (Shoreview, MN) found the net with an assist from
Maren Dvorak (Northfield, MN) to make the score 2-0 in the first period.
The Pointers weren't finished, as
Amber Ostoff (North Mankato, MN/Mankato West) got in on the scoring with a power play goal 17:17 into the second period off an
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL) pass.
The Falcons responded in the third period with an unassisted goal by Alyssa Isaackson 1:11 into the period to make the score 3-1.
Stevens Point added another goal 18:33 into the period when
Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) scored off passes from Greenen and
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) to make the final 4-1.
Pointer goalkeeper
Staci Pomering (Roscoe, IL) finishes the night with 17 saves, giving up one goal and currently has a 2-0 record. Falcon goalkeeper Katie Hirsch finishes the night with 26 saves giving up four goals.
Stevens Point faces Concordia on Saturday, November 21 at Ice Hawks Arena with the puck set to drop at 2:30 p.m.
