Twelve Pointers Earn All-WIAC Honors

MADISON – The Pointers (7-3, 6-1 WIAC) had 12 players earn All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team honors after placing second in the WIAC in 2009, one game behind champion UW-Whitewater. The Pointers had five players represented on the First Team All-WIAC, four on the Second Team-All WIAC, two Honorable Mention All-WIAC honors, and one representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

First Team Offense
Shane Winterfeldt (Hortonville), Offensive Line- Winterfeldt helped lead the offensive line that gave up just 10 sacks on the season. He also paved the way for the ground game that amassed over 1,200 yards on the season. The Pointers were able to rush for over 100 yards three times in their last five games, thanks in large part to Winterfeldt.

Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee), Wide Receiver- Jenkins led the WIAC in every statistical category for the wide receiver position. Jenkins finished with 80 receptions for 1,210 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2009. He also enters the top-5 of UW-Stevens Point's all-time touchdown receptions list.

First Team Defense
John Jones (Oregon), Linebacker- Jones led a Pointer defense that ranked as one of the best in the WIAC in rushing defense. Jones finished 2009 with 48 solo tackles and 92 tackles overall. He recorded a season high 15 against UW-Whitewater. Jones had one interception and one fumble recovery this season.

Matt Lunder (Waunakee), Defensive Line- Lunder was a nuisance to opposing quarterbacks all year long. He recorded 64 tackles, 30 of which were solo, and forced a team-high two fumbles.

Charlie Dercks (Little Chute), Defensive Line- Dercks was nearly impossible for opposing offensive linemen to contain, finishing 2009 with 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss. He recorded 27 tackles on the season, with his season high of seven coming against UW-Whitewater.

Second Team Offense
Jared Beckwith (Baraboo), Quarterback- Beckwith was at or near the top of most WIAC quarterback categories all season long. Beckwith finished 2009 with 2,527 yard and 20 touchdowns on 206-336 passing. He threw for a season high 447 yards and five touchdowns in a victory against UW-Eau Claire.

Second Team Defense
Pierce FollansbeeDelong (Cumberland), Defensive Line- FollansbeeDelong was quite the contributor to the Pointer defense that harassed opposing quarterbacks and running backs all season long. He finished second on the Pointers with 7.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

Bryan Blum (Baraboo), Defensive Back- Blum had double duties as a defensive back and punt returner in 2009 for the Pointers. Blum was third on the Pointers with 76 tackles and recorded one interception. He finished the season with five passes broken up and six passes deflected.

Joe Mleziva (Casco), Defensive Back- Mleziva did a great job in 2009 as the Pointers last line of defense from his safety position. He was second on the Pointers in both tackles and interceptions. Mleziva recorded 89 tackles, four interceptions and nine passes deflected.

Honorable Mention Offense
Tyler VandenWyngaard (Kaukauna), Offensive Line- VandenWyngaard helped lead the offensive line that gave up just 10 sacks on the entire season.
