STEVENS POINT – The Pointer men's cross country team had three runners named to the 2009 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Cross Country All-Region Team.
Nick Schaefer (New London),
Joel Heroux (Sturgeon Bay), and
Brandon Dworak (Denmark) were recognized.
Schaefer made a statement at the Midwest Regional in Winneconne by placing 23rd overall with a time of 25:04. He is the lone representative to run for UW-Stevens Point at the Div. III National Meet on Nov. 21, at Highland Hills Golf Course in Highland Hills, Ohio.
Heroux had a successful 2009 campaign and finished just short of qualifying for the Div. III National Meet in the Midwest Regional. He finished with a time of 25:11 in 29th place. Heroux led the Pointers to a second place Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference cross country meet finish by placing third overall with a time of 25:47.
Dworak finished in 32nd place at the Midwest Regional, just behind teammate Heroux. Dworak's time of 25:18 just missed the final qualifying time for the Div. III National Meet. He helped lead the Pointers to a second place WIAC cross country meet finish with a time of 26:05, good for 10th place.
