Subway Athletes of the Week - 11/16/09

STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point has named Athletes of the Week for the Week of Nov. 9-15. The program is sponsored by Subway.

Football
Offense – Keith Ingram, Sophomore (Milwaukee, Wis.)

Sophomore running back Keith Ingram, (Milwaukee, Wis.), led the way for the Pointer offense accounting for 210 of the 504 total yards of offense by the Pointers. Ingram carried the ball for a career high of 24 times, rushed for a career high of 210 yards and had a career high of three rushing touchdowns in the game. Ingram scored the game winning touchdown on an 18 yard rush with under six minutes to go in the game. Ingram finishes the season with 261 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Defense – Pierce FollansbeeDelong, Senior (Cumberland, Wis.)
Playing is his last collegiate game Pierce FollansbeeDelong, Senior (Cumberland, Wis.), led the Pointers in tackles with seven. FollansbeeDelong had 2.5 tackles for loss including two sacks for losses of 16 yards. FollansbeeDelong also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. For the season FollansbeeDelong had 48 tackles including 7.5 sacks.


Special Teams – Andrew Clohan, Freshman (Stevens Point, Wis.)
Kicker Andrew Clohan, freshman (Stevens Point, Wis.), finished his first year of organized football with a perfect day against UW-Platteville. Clohan kept the Pointers close throughout the first half with two field goals. In the second half Clohan converted all four of his extra point attempts to finish the game with five extra points and two field goals. For the season Clohan finished 4-6 in field goals with a long of 40 yards and 30-33 in extra points.

Women's Hockey
Samantha Scheving, Sophomore (Warroad, Minn.)

Defender Samantha Scheving, sophomore (Warroad, Minn.) played in two games this weekend leading the Pointers to a split with St. Olaf. From her defensive position, Scheving held St. Olaf to only 27 shots in a tough 3-2 Pointer win. Saturday the Scheving led defense only allowed 15 shots. Scheving also contributed on the offensive end with an assist on an even-strength goal on Saturday. For the week Scheving finished plus three.

Wrestling
Ben Engelland, Junior (Neenah, Wis.)

Ben Engelland, Junior (Neenah, Wis.) won the 2009 Pointer Open and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. In the first round Engelland recorded his second pin of the season with a pin of UW-River Falls' Mark Ineichea just 1:38 into the match. Engelland then won two matches by decision to reach the finals against UW-Madison's Derrick Borlie. Engelland defeated Borlie in a tough technical match by a score of 2-1 to capture the 184 pound championship.

Swimming/Diving
Men- Brent Schwartz Senior (Waukesha, Wis.)

Brent Schwartz, senior (Waukesha, Wis.), took home two individual wins this past weekend at the UWSP hosted Border Battle swim meet. Schwartz lead a trio of Pointer men by winning the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.76, almost a full second ahead of the second place finisher. Schwartz also captured the win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.35

Woman- Jessica Nordstrom, Junior (Hibbing, Minn.)
Jessica Nordstrom, Junior (Hibbing, Minn.) tallied two victories in the home opening meet of the young 2009-10 season. Nordstrom led the 200 yard relay team to a close victory of 0.4 seconds with a time of 1:39.68. Nordstrom also won on the individual side as well, with a win in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.58.
