Oles defeat Pointers in Overtime

STEVENS POINT – St. Olaf scored 2:18 into the overtime period to give the Oles the 4-3 victory over the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks arena in non-conference action.

The loss snaps a five-game winning streak by the Pointers and gives St. Olaf their first victory of the season.

Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN)
put the Pointers in front at the 14:13 mark of the first period, scoring on the power play and giving UW-Stevens Point the early lead.

St. Olaf scored 51 seconds into the second period to tie the game at one, but Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN) added an even strength goal at the 5:49 mark to give Stevens Point the lead once more, 2-1.

Under a minute later, Kim McClintick scored on the power play for the Oles, again tying the game at 2-2.
In the third, with an extra attacker on and time running out, Carothers knocked in her second goal of the game for the Pointers, forcing overtime.

Just two minutes in, the Oles Katie Iraci scored the game-winner, handing the Pointers their first loss since the season opener.

d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) suffered the overtime loss for the Pointers, recording 11 saves on the day while her counterpart Jessica Ptachick recorded 20 saves including 10 in the third to earn the victory.

The Pointers (5-2) open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next Friday, Nov. 20, when they host Concordia (Wis.) in a weekend series. Friday's game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
