Pointer men and women finish second at Border Battle

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point swimming & diving teams battled their way to second place finishes over the weekend, as UW-Milwaukee took home the men's and women's title at the annual Border Brawl swim meet.

The University of South Dakota finished third in both the men's and women's rankings while Minnesota State finished fourth.

Highlights for the Pointer men's team included the men's 200 freestyle relay team of Matthew Olp (Oregon), Eric Emerson (River Falls), Ryan Golz (Inver Grove Heights, MN) and Sam Davy (Stevens Point) finished with the top time of 1:26.11. In the 100 breaststroke, a trio of Pointers finished 1-3, as Brent Schwartz (Waukesha) (59.76), Shaun Marcott (Madison) (1:00.65) and Matthew Teske (Faribault, MN) (1:00.66) were the top finishers for UWSP.

Elsewhere for the men, in the 200 breaststroke, the UWSP tandem of Brent Schwartz and Shaun Marcott finished 1-2, posting times of 2:12.35 and 2:13.21 respectively.

In men's three meter diving, Jeff Meyer (Fairbault), Jake Brandt (Stoughton) and Cody White (Denver, CO) finished 1-3, with Meyer posting a score of 281.00. In the one meter dive, Meyer, Brandt and White again made it a sweep, finishing with scores of 394.20, 332.95 and 223.45 respectively.

On the women's side, the 200 freestyle relay team of Jessica Nordstrom (Hibbing, MN), Kelly Kading (De Pere), Lisa Clemens (Wisconsin Dells) and Lindsay Lukes (Austin, MN) finished with a top time of 1:39.68. Nordstrom added an individual top time of her own in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 24.58.

The Pointers return to action on December 4-5 when they travel to the Wheaton (Ill.). Action Friday is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.
