Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The UW-Stevens Point women’s hockey team (1-1-0, 1-1-0) won its first game of the season, defeating the University of St. Thomas Tommies (1-1-0, 1-1-0) 5-3 in St. Paul, Minn., splitting the weekend series with the Tommies.  Five different Pointers scored on the day.

The Pointers fell behind early after a St. Thomas shot got past Pointer goaltender d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) at the 13 minute mark in the first period.

The Pointers answered back on a Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN) power play goal that was assisted by Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN) and Samantha Scheving (Warroad, MN) in the second period. The Pointers fell behind again 2-1 after another Tommies goal, but Brooke Hanson (Maple Grove, MN) tied the game up 2-2 on a goal from a sharp Sarah Dusold (Shoreview, MN) pass.

Michelle Lunneborg (Richfield, MN) scored late in the second period, assisted from Carothers, to put the Pointers up 3-2 heading to the third period.

Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) added another Pointer power-play goal at the 10 minute mark in the third quarter, making the score 4-2 in UWSP’s favor. The Tommies added a goal six minutes later, but it wasn’t enough.

Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN), assisted by Novak, scored the third and final power-play goal of the game for the Pointers, pushing the score to 5-3 UWSP.

Phillips finished the game with 22 saves for the Pointers.

The Pointers return to action Friday, Nov. 6 when they travel to Augsburg College for a non-conference game. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
