Tennis defeats Stout 7-2

MENOMONIE-The UW-Stevens Point (9-4, 2-2) women's tennis team defeated UW-Stout (3-8, 0-5) Saturday morning in Menomonie by a score of 7-2.

The Pointer's No. 2 doubles team of Emily Riordan (Appleton) and Kaitlyn King (Plover) did not allow a point as they beat Erin James and Katie Sorensen 8-0. The No. 3 doubles team of Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI) and Leah Benn (Stevens Point) found similar success as they defeated Stephanie Schick and Callie Mikolajczak 8-2.

UW-Stevens Point won five out of six singles matches to secure the victory, as Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) and Riordan defeated their opponents by the same scores of 6-1 in both sets. King's first set against Katie Sorenson went to a score of 7-5. King then had an easier time in the second set winning 6-2.

Sorenson defeated Stephanie Schick 6-3, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles Benn defeated Mikolajczak by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

The Pointers return to action on Tuesday, October 6 when they host UW-Whitewater at Sentryworld. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
