ST. PAUL, MN – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team has been picked to finish fourth in the preseason conference poll by a vote of the head coaches of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Pointers received one first place vote, falling short of preseason favorite UW-River Falls, who received six first place votes.
The Pointers finished third in the NCHA last season with an 11-4-3 conference record and a 16-6-6 overall record. River Falls won the NCHA league title with a 15-2-1 record.
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN), All-NCHA last season, looks to lead the Pointers this season, boasting the highest point output for a returning player this season. Last season Carothers scored 19 goals and recorded nine assists in 28 games.
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) will look to add to her point total from last season where she scored 11 goals and recorded nine assists in 20 games as a freshman.
Opposing offenses will have to deal with Pointer goaltender
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI) again this season. Last year Phillips held the opposition to just 1.49 goals per contest with a .942 save percentage. Those numbers were good enough to earn Phillips All-NCHA honors last season.
The Pointers open their season on Oct. 30-31 when they travel to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul for a two game series. Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 31.
