STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team closed out the regular season in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, posting a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Pioneers of Carroll University in non-conference action at the Point Soccer Bowl.

The Pioneers struck first, as Kendell Uttech gave Carroll a 1-0 edge just 6:22 into the first half, putting a pass from Kelly Blenner into the back of the net.

Kirsti Nickels (Appleton) answered with the equalizer for the Pointers at the 29:54 mark, scoring off a rebound in front of the net, knotting the score at 1-1 with her 14th goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc) tallied her eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick, after being fouled in the box, giving the Pointers the 2-1 edge.

Carroll answered just before halftime, as Liz Melcher scored off a rebounded shot in front of the net, sending the ball into the net and knotting the score at 2-2.

In the 64th minute of the second half, Nickels struck again, this time her 15th goal of the season off a crossing pass from Bieschke, again giving the Pointers the lead.

The rest of the way, the Pointer defense held off the Pioneers, handing the visitors just their second loss of the season. Goalkeeper Liz Hunter (Stevens Point) tallied 11 saves on the afternoon for the Pointers.

The Pointers (13-3-1) receive a first round bye from the conference tournament and will host the lowest remaining seed after the quarterfinal round at the Point Soccer Bowl on Thursday, Nov. 5.
