Pointers blank Yellowjackets, finish undefeated in WIAC

STEVENS POINT – The Pointer Women's Soccer team (12-3-1, 8-0) beat the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior (3-16, 0-8) at Community Stadium at Goerke Park by a score of 9-0 to finish the season undefeated in conference play. The victory marks the 11th time the Pointers finished a season undefeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

The Pointers were led on offense by Andrea Peiffer (Mequon/Homestead)'s (Mequon) two goals and Jessica Wieland (Muskego/Muskego)'s (Muskego) three assists. Peiffer's goals were her second and third of the season and the assists were Wieland's second, third, and fourth of the season.

In all, the Pointers had eight different players score goals. Kirsti Nickels (Appleton) scored her team leading 13th goal of the season at the 28:35 minute mark and Sammy Greer (Rubicon) added her fourth of the season two minutes later. The Pointers were up at the half by a score of 5-0.

Wieland was the first to score in the second half when her shot hit the back of the net at the 47 minute mark. The goal was her third of the season.

The Pointers added several more goals and in the 74th minute Angela Gallow (Menasha) took a Wieland pass and slammed it into the goal for her second goal of the season, putting UWSP up 9-0.

Several Pointers scored their first goals of the season in the match. Hillary Sauer (Stevens Point) scored off a Greer assist at the 3:55 mark, putting the Pointers up 2-0. In the second half, Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls) powered in her first goal on a pass from Wieland, making the score 7-0. Kelsey Majerus (Cottoge Grove, MN) scored her first goal of the season in the 64th minute off a Wieland pass, giving the Pointers an 8-0 lead.

Pointer goalkeepers Liz Hunter (Stevens Point) and Kayla Skotzke (Phillips) combined for one save on the day, notching the 10th shutout of the season for the Pointers.

The Pointers return to action Oct. 25, when they host Carroll University (13-1-1, 8-0) at the Pointer Soccer Bowl. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
