WINNECONNE – UW-Stevens Point's
Brian Finnel (Froestville) was the top college finisher on Friday afternoon at the UW-Oshkosh Men's Cross Country Open held at Lake Breeze Golf Course. No team scores were kept at the event.
Finnel finished with a time of 27:03, just ahead of former Pointer
Travis Nechuta (Mosinee) '09. Another former Pointer,
Corey Towle (Waukesha), '09 finished second overall in the field of 30 runners with a time of 26:16.
Elsewhere for the Pointers,
Adam Lang (Sheboygan) finished eighth with a time of 27:24,
Alex Steiner (Chilton),
John Pliska (Junction City) and
Adam Steinke (Hewitt) finished 10-12 with times of 27:33, 27:34 and 27:43.
Evan Cooper (Delafield) finished 17th,
Logan Seipel (Colfax) finished 20th,
Andrew Dieterich (Hollandale) finished 21st,
Brian Jensen (Kenosha) finished 22nd and
Jacob Cox (Berlin) finished 24th to round out the competitors for UW-Stevens Point.
The Pointers return to action on Oct. 31 as they travel to UW-Whitewater for the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship. Men's action begins at 1 p.m.
