RIVER FALLS – After their fast start to the beginning of the season, the Pointer women's tennis team picked up their first conference victory of the season, defeating UW-River Falls 6-3 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action Friday evening.
The Pointers used doubles victories from the No. 1 tandem of
Rachel Benn (Stevens Point) and
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) and a win from
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI) and
Leah Benn (Stevens Point) at No. 3 to jump in front of the Falcons 2-1.
In singles, the Rachel and
Leah Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) earned victories at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, as Rachel posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory while younger sister Leah was a 6-4, 6-2.
Emily Riordan (Appleton) and Sorensen added victories at No. 3 and No. 5 to secure the 6-3 victory for the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point (8-4, 1-2 WIAC) returns to action Saturday morning against the Blue Devils of UW-Stout. Please note that the time of Saturday's match has been moved up to an 8 a.m. start at the UW-Stout indoor courts.
