OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team closed out the fall season on Friday evening with a 6-3 victory over the Titans of UW-Oshkosh, moving to 3-3 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play, 10-5 overall.
The Pointers tallied just one doubles victory to start the evening as
Leah Benn (Stevens Point) and
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover) tallied their 10th doubles victory of the season together at No. 3, posting an 8-2 victory over Erica Troia and Jennifer Pietkauskis.
The Pointers came alive in singles action, notching victories at 1-4 and No. 6 singles to secure the victory.
Rachel Benn (Stevens Point) battled back after dropping her first set 6-2 to win at No. 1 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. After winning her first set 6-0,
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA) dropped the second set 5-7 and had to battle back to take the third set 7-5.
Emily Riordan's
(Appleton) match went to a third set tiebreaker, falling in her first set 6-0 before rebounding with 6-3, 10-8 victory.
Kaitlyn King (Plover) took her opponent to a third set tiebreak at No. 4 singles as well, but came out with the 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 victory.
Leah Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) was also victorious at No. 6 singles, winning her match in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
The Pointers return to action on Oct. 24-25, as they travel to Madison to compete in the WIAC tennis tournament. Action begins on the 24th at 1 p.m.
