OSHKOSH - UW-Stevens Point closed out the week with a strong showing at the Dan Gable Open, hosted by UW-Oshkosh as five wrestlers finished in the top-five, including
Bret Oswald (Antigo/Antigo) (Antigo), who captured the heavyweight crown. No team scores were kept for the event.
Oswald fought his way through the 285-pound weight class, earning three victories, all by pins, to capture the championship. Oswald advanced to the second round with a pin of Oshkosh's Eric Allen in 4:45, then advanced with a pin in 0:52 over James Malechek of UW-Parkside and finally defeated Pat Walker of Illinois, wrestling unattached, for the crown.

Dan Wierzba (Stevens Point/Pacelli) (Stevens Point) finished sixth at 157,

Dennis Reckelberg (New Franken/Luxemburg-Casco) (Luxemburg) finished fourth at 174,
Brandon Jochem (Hustisford/Hustisford) (Hustisford) finished sixth at 197 and
Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood) (Neillsville) finished fourth in the heavyweight division.
The Pointers return to action on Jan. 20 when they host No. 10 ranked and Division II opponent UW-Parkside at 7 p.m.
