STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's track and field team will take part in four events this week at the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Oshkosh.
The Championships begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Pointers will compete in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay, and the 4x400-meter relay.
Liz Caine (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) will compete in three events for Stevens Point. Caine was the lone Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) qualifier in the 100-meter dash as she had the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division III this season at 12.05 seconds at the NCAA Qualifier in La Crosse last Thursday. Caine will also compete in the 200-meter dash. Her fastest time of the season in that event took place at the WIAC Championships with a time of 25.05 seconds.
Caine will also be part of the 4x100-meter relay team. The 4x100-meter relay team of Caine, Erin Faller (Marinette/Marinette) (Fr.-Marinette), Andrea Irvine (Green Bay/Bay Port) (Sr.-Green Bay/Bay Port), and Laura Simonis (Rosholt/Rosholt) (Jr.-Rosholt) had the 10th fastest time in NCAA Division III this season at the UW-Oshkosh Last Chance Meet, where the team ran the event in 47.77 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team consists of Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson/Jefferson) (So.-Jefferson), Andrea Irvine (Green Bay/Bay Port), Laura Simonis (Rosholt/Rosholt), and Angela Steffens (Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) (Sr.-Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette). The team had the fourth fastest time in Division III this season with a time of 3:49.41 seconds at the Gregory Invite last Friday. This same team finished eighth at last year's NCAA Championships to earn All-American honors.
The trials of the 200-meter dash and both relays will take place on Thursday and trials for the 100-meter dash will be on Friday. All four event finals will take place on Saturday. Events begin at noon on Thursday at Titan Stadium.
