STEVENS POINT – The Pointers wrestling team won all but one match en route to 38-6 victory over the Pioneers of UW-Platteville Thursday night at Berg Gym.
The win moves the Pointers to 7-0 overall, with a 2-0 mark in the WIAC. With the defeat, the Pioneers fall to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the WIAC.
Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) (Gladstone, Mich.) and Jared Kern (Mosinee) got the Pointers rolling early at 125 and 133-pounds respectively. Mileski won 10-6, while Kern cruised to a 17-4 victory to give UWSP the early advantage.
The Pioneers fought back with a pin at 141-pounds, but it was all Pointers from there.
Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) (Racine) won a 10-7 decision in the 149-pound bout, before
Andrew Dilworth (Greendale/Greendale) (Greendale) won by forfeit in the 157-pound match.
The Pointers kept it rolling with a 6-1 win by
Fred Lane (Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) (Stanley) at 165-pounds, a 20-6 victory by
Chris Karl (Arpin/Auburndale) (Auburndale) at 174-pounds, and a forfeit victory by
Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) (Neenah) at 184-points.
Jeremy Fulk (Anchorage, AK/West Valley) (Anchorage, Alaska) won the 197-pound match 4-1, and
Bret Oswald (Antigo/Antigo) (Antigo) finished with a bang as he recorded a pin at 2:39 to seal up the Pointers second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season.
The Pointers are now on a short break for the holidays, but look to continue their strong start when they travel to participate in the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie, Tex. on Jan 3.
