Pointers Go 4-0 at Comet Duels

OLIVET, Mich. - The No. 11 ranked Pointers got undefeated days from Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) (Racine), No. 7 ranked Jake Wozniak (Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) (Stanley), No. 5 ranked Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) (Neenah), Jeremy Fulk (Anchorage, AK/West Valley) (Anchorage, Alaska) and Chad Gregory (Lawton, OK/Lawton) (Lawton, Okla.) to go a perfect 4-0 at the Comet Duels in Olivet, Mich. Saturday. The wins improve the Pointers to 5-0 on the season.

The Pointers boasted wins over Ohio Northern (28-8), Mount Saint Joseph (32-12), Baldwin-Wallace (42-4) and host Olivet (28-17) en route to the perfect day.

Against Ohio Northern, the Pointers tallied eight wins including No. 8 ranked Chase DeCleene (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon)'s (Ashwaubenon) pin of Ben Marks at 2:52 at 141 and Fulk's 16-6 victory at 197 over Drew Michel. Adding to the victory column were No. 9 ranked Jared Kern (Mosinee), Magruder, Wozniak, Dennis Reckelberg (New Franken/Luxemburg-Casco) (Luxemburg), Engelland and Gregory.

Against host Olivet, the Pointers tallied six wins including Magruder, Engelland and Gregory pins at 149, 184 and 285 on their way to the 28-17 victory. Also notching wins were Kern, Wozniak and Fulk.

In a dominating performance over Baldwin-Wallace, the Pointers captured all but one weight class on their way to the largest margin of victory since a 45-3 win over Lawrence in February of last season. DeCleene pinned Phil Payne at 6:01 to lead the way at 141.

In the day's final match-up against Mount St. Joseph, the Pointers collected wins from Kern, Magruder, Wozniak, Chris Karl (Arpin/Auburndale) (Auburndale), Engelland, Fulk and Gregory all notched victories as the Pointers tallied a 32-12 win and capped their third straight season going 4-0 at the Comet Duals.

The Pointers (5-0) have the week off before hosting UW-Oshkosh in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
