Pointers Bounce Titans 6-3

APPLETON - The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team improved their record to 7-5 overall, 2-4 in the WIAC in their final regular-season match of the fall, defeating the Titans of UW-Oshkosh 6-3.

The Pointers tandem of Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley) (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Rachel Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) (Stevens Point) were winners at No. 1 doubles, picking up the Pointers only win in the flight, a 8-6 decision over Jenna Abbott and Eva Counsell.

In singles, the Pointers captured all but one flight, as Benn came back from a 6-0 second set loss to win 6-2, 0-6, (10-8) at No. 1 singles. Allbaugh defeated Abbot at No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) to capture the No. 2 singles match and Emily Riordan (Appleton/North) (Appleton) picked up a win at No. 3 singles in a third set tiebreak thriller, winning 4-6, 6-3, (17-15).

Emily Oxton (Manitowoc/Lincoln) (Manitowoc) and Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI/SPASH) (Plover) were the other winners for the Pointers, picking up straight set victories by scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-3 respectively.

UWSP returns to action next weekend, Oct. 25-26 at the WIAC Tournament hosted by UW-La Crosse at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
