Women's Track & Field Finishes Fourth at WIAC Championships

OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point women's track and field team did not capture a first-place finish at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, but four second-place finishes and several other top-eight finishes helped the Pointers to a fourth place showing.

The Pointers accumulated 94 team points, while champion UW-La Crosse amassed 211 points. UW-Oshkosh finished in second with 181 points, UW-Eau Claire finished in third with 146 points.

UW-River Falls, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater, UW-Stout and UW-Superior rounded out the teams.

Highlights from the two day championships included:

Elizabeth Caine (Plover) finished second in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 12.11seconds, earning eight team points. The mark was also an NCAA provisional time.   She also finished third in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 24.59 seconds, another NCAA provisional mark.

Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson) also finished second in the 400-meter dash, earning eight team points with her time of 58.50 seconds.

Kelly Haen (Kaukauna) finished second in the 10000-meter run, finishing just 14.56 seconds off the leader, posting a time of 38:41.57. Allison Wolter (Kaukauna) finished third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 11:13.87.

Haen and Wolter finished 2-3 in the 5000-meter run, posting time of 18:19.07 and 18:25.46 respectively.

The 4x400-meter relay team finished with a NCAA provisional time of 3:55.01, a second place finish earning eight team points. The 4x800-meter relay team finished in third, posting a time of 9:36.57.

Bethany Utecht (Fredonia) finished third in the javelin, finishing with a toss of 116 feet, six inches.

Sara Kline (Casco) finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.13 seconds after posting the second-fastest qualifying time of 14.89 seconds.

Claire Roberts (Oakfield) finished fifth in the 1500-meter run, posting a time of 4:45.98

Katie Meyer (Lake Mills) finished 11th in the women's Heptathlon, scoring 3042 points, highlighted by a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run

Laura Simonis (Rosholt) was also named to the WIAC Women's All-Sportsmanship Team.
