Day played at linebacker for head coach D.J. LeRoy from 1985 to 1987 and John Miech in 1988. He was an All-WIAC first team selection in 1986 after leading the team with 147 tackles. It marks the fourth-best single season in WIAC history for tackles. He also earned honorable mention All-American honors that season. Day was also named to the All-WIAC honorable mention team in 1988.
