Len Hill began his career as UWSP's Assistant Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach and Head Women's Cross Country Coach in 1984. After two years, Coach Hill became the head coach of both women's programs. Throughout his 21 years at UWSP, Hill was named the Cross Country Coach of the Year five times – 1991-92, 1992-93, 2000-01, 2003-04, and 2004-05. He was also named the Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2000-01 and 2002-03.  Under Hill's tutelage, 14 Pointers won individual National Championships.

Hill coached nine NCAA All-Americans in cross country with seven Top-10 NCAA Team performances with 2003 being the best finish, third place. In 2003 and 2004 Hill coached the women's cross country team to back-to-back Team Conference Championships. Hill also coached three individual Conference Champions in 1995 (Wendi Zak), 2000 (Leah Juno) and 2001 (Becky Lebak).

Moving onto Indoor track and field, Hill had the opportunity to coach 38 NCAA Indoor Track and Field All-Americans and 41 Individual Indoor Conference Champions. With all the talented athletes that Hill coached, he took many athletes to Indoor Track and Field Nationals and came away with five Top-10 NCAA Team finishes. The UWSP women's track and field team came away with their best finishes in 2001 (4th) and in 2004 (3rd).

Finally, in outdoor track and field, Hill coached 46 Conference Champions in his years at UWSP. On the national level, Hill also had 63 NCAA All-Americans and seven Top-15 NCAA Team performances.
