Petersen played for legendary coach Shirley Egner from 2007 to 2011. She capped her career with a WIAC Player of the Year and a pair of All-America nods in 2011. During her playing days, Petersen helped the Pointers win the WIAC regular season title twice and the WIAC Tournament four times. She led UWSP to an Elite 8 appearance and two other seasons the team reached the Sweet 16. Petersen is second in program history in field goals made with 664 and is third in career blocks with 100. With 1,511 career points, she is fourth among the UWSP all-time scoring leaders. Petersen led the Pointers in scoring in three of her four seasons and was a three-time All-WIAC first team selection. Three times in her career Petersen was an All-Central Region pick and in 2011 she was named the D3hoops.com Central Region Player of the Year. In 2012, Petersen was named to the WIAC All-Time Team as part of the league's Centennial Celebration.
